Why keystone rewilding exists.

Over 85% of land in Pennsylvania is privately owned*. That means the future of our ecosystems isn’t decided only in preserves or parks—it’s shaped in backyards, campuses, farms, and other shared spaces. We exist to help landowners steward that responsibility with expertise—designing beautiful landscapes that restore ecological function.

Our Philosophy

Start where you are

Every landscape is part of a larger living system. No matter its size, the land you steward shapes the ecosystems around it. Even a single yard can become wildlife habitat and a vital pollinator corridor.

Design with nature, not against it

Healthy ecosystems offer powerful design guidance. We study natural patterns and processes—and let them lead.

Stewardship over time

Ecological landscapes are never finished, they continue to grow and evolve. We offer both hands-on care and guidance for landowners who want to remain deeply connected to their land.

What rewilding means to us.

Rewilding does not mean abandoning care or letting landscapes grow unmanaged. It means restoring ecological relationships—working with natural processes instead of against them.

We approach gardens and landscapes as living systems shaped by soil, water, native plants, wildlife, and people. Through thoughtful design and long-term stewardship, we help cultivate spaces that are resilient, dynamic, and alive.

The name Keystone Rewilding reflects this philosophy. It’s both a nod to our home in Pennsylvania—the Keystone State—and to the ecological concept of a keystone species: one whose presence shapes the health and stability of an entire ecosystem.

In many places, keystone species have been diminished or removed. We believe it is our responsibility to step into that absence thoughtfully—restoring balance, strengthening biodiversity, and contributing to the health of the systems we are already part of.

Rewilding begins locally and its impact extends outward.

Our Mission

Keystone Rewilding’s mission is to restore ecological function and resilience through native planting, thoughtful design, and long-term land stewardship. Through this work, we create beautiful, living spaces that support the enduring health of the land—and the people and wildlife in relationship with it—for generations to come.
